Applesauce!
We had a wonderful time for today's "Fun Friday". One of the activities we did was making crock pot applesauce. This correlated with our "Fall" project work we've been doing each afternoon.
After it cooked for several hours, we tasted it and then made a graph to show who liked it and who did not. An overwhelming number of our friends enjoyed it!

Memory Boxes
Wow! I was amazed with the Memory Box project! It was interesting to hear each child tell about their own "histories!"
Mummies
Today we leared about mummies! We learned about the Ancient Egyptian's beliefs that bodies would be needed after death and that they also packed tombs full of furniture, clothing, jewels, and even jars of food. Then, Mr. Cory was an amazing sport and let us turn HIM into a mummy!
Then, we journaled about what we learned.

Cave Drawings, Maps, and Irrigation
Today, we learned that when the Nomads were traveling through ancient Egypt and settling in the Fertile Crescent, "cave drawings" was one way they used to record their histories. We discussed different tools they might have used to make their drawings and the different pictures they might have drawn to tell particular stories. Then, we made our OWN cave drawings using (exceptionally) large boxes and chalk. (Some of the pictures below were taken with my phone. I thought I didn't bring my camera. Then, halfway through the project, I found it. Typical me.)
Here is an example of the map of the Fertile Crescent we worked with today as well. We also learned about the ancient city of Jericho, and how they protected their people using a wall and a look-out.
We also discussed how the villagers tamed sheep and goats so they wouldn't have to hunt for wild animals, as well as the ancient irrigation systems they used to keep their crops watered and how they compare to modern-day irrigation systems.
I'm going to try to find a way to display our "caves" without them being destroyed by overexcited visitors. Once I do, I hope you can check them out.
Happy Birthday, Savannah!
We had a blast at Savannah's birthday party last week!
( I found this blog in my drafts? I'm not sure why it didn't publish when I told it to!)

My Cave Drawing Pickle...
I decided that I want to have the children make cave drawings next week. Cory and I were going to try to call Lowe's or somewhere like that to see if we could have some appliance boxes to use as "caves". Well, today, was I was pulling into my neighborhood, I spotted some guys from Jeff Lynch delivering a washer and dryer to a neighbor. JACKPOT! I pulled the car over and asked if I could have the boxes. The guys gave me some really strange looks but said that i could. They dropped the boxes off on my porch, but those things are HUGE! One way or the other, though, I'm GOING to get them to school so we can use them next week...I've just yet to figure out how. =)
I hope everyone is having a great week!

All Things Me!
I just wanted to say "GREAT JOB!" to everyone! These projects were fantastic! Everyone really enjoyed getting up and telling the class all about what makes them "them".
Totally unrelated, but Mr. Cory snapped a picture of me engrossed in my filing process today. I promise there is a method to my madness!
Music, Spanish, Bricks for Kids, Ballet, and Cooking!
Our class is so busy these days!
On Friday, we had music class with Mr. Noble. He was teaching us about different tempos so we practiced moving slowly and quickly. He also showed us how to use a cymbal and of course, we did some music and movement! (If you ever get a chance, you should check this class out! It's extremely high-energy and the class really enjoys it!)
Bricks for Kids came on Friday as well! We'll take this class every other Friday in the afternoons. The children were given a blue print to follow to build a suspension bridge.
We started Spanish class today! Ms. Riley will be coming to teach us three days a week. Today, we worked with Months and Days of the week, numbers, and colors.
During cooking class with Chef Alisha, we made Whipped Cream!
Finally...some of our girls take Ballet on Tuesdays during center time (If your child isn't signed up and you would like them to be, please see someone at the front desk. I've been really impressed!). Here are a few snapshots I took today...
Whoa! I'm tired just reviewing this post! We sure do stay busy doing enrichment activities! I hope to catch a few pictures of the children participating in Happy Feet this week too. If your child is not signed up for Happy Feet soccer and you'd like for them to be, please see someone at the front desk.
Happy Tuesday!
