Center Time and Reading Fun

I saw some pretty cool things during free choice center time today.

This is quite the construction project!

 

They built a zoo, complete with rock enclosures. They told me that the empty one was for the sick animals. Thanfully, none were sick today.

 

What a delicious meal!

 

Phonics practice on the laptops is always fun!

Primary and Secondary Colors

Last week, we learned about primary colors during work centers. We learned that most other colors are made by mixing the primary colors together. Today, we used red, blue, and yellow paint to make secondary colors. We viewed some online images of color wheels on the Starboard, and then make practiced making our own.

Work Centers

We started working in "work centers" again this week. Each day, the class is split into groups of three or four and given specific tasks to complete. Here are a few highlights.

Tyler, Morgan, and Alex are working on their "Primary Colors" project.

Morgan is such a good sport, isn't she? She was one of the "items" that had to be measured using standard and non-standard units of measure.

Celebrating Christmas, Multiage Style!

We had such a wonderful time celebrating Christmas in Multiage. Here are a few highlights from our (seemingly) month-long celebration!

First, we went on a field trip to The Peace Center for Performing Arts to see Junie B. Jones (Jingle Bells, Batman Smells) They absolutely LOVED it! I don't think I've ever seen this class sit that still and be that quiet for such a long period of time. =)

 

 

 

 

 

The children were also asked to work together with their families to create ornaments that represented their family's holiday traditions. They really enjoyed sharing these with their classmates, and then using them to decorate our classroom's Christmas tree.

 

 



 

 

 

 

 

 

Pajamas and Polar Express Day is probably my favorite class holiday tradition ever.

 



 

 

Do you like gingerbread? Most of our class does! We taste-tested some cookies after reading several versions of "The Gingerbread Man" and comparing them.

Then, of course, we had a fantastic Christmas party. We ate delicious food, exchanged books, and performed for our families.



 

 

 

 

Once upon a time...

in the land of my worst nightmares, I lost my camera! Thankfully, I woke up from the nightmare today when it was found (you've got to love those pesky two year olds who love to hide things, particularly in inside pockets of rarely-used bags). Okay, so maybe that was a little bit dramatic. Anyway, now that it's found, be prepared for a little bit of blog-bombing as I back-post for December. Happy reading!

Testing the Strength of Magnets

As part of our study of Magnetism, we conducted an experiment to test the strength of three different kinds of magnets that we have in our classroom--a horseshoe magnet, a wand magnet, and a toy magnet. First, we  made our predictions, and decided we thought the wand magnet would be the strongest and the horseshoe magnet would be the weakest.

PS: Our predictions were spot on! The wand magnet WAS the strongest, and the horseshoe magnet WAS the weakest! Great job, scientists!
