Thomas's Show and Tell
Thomas brought an interesting item to share with his friends on Thursday. He told us that birch bark used to be used as paper.

Measuring Forces
I didn't take as many pictures of this activity as I would have liked, but yesterday the Multiage class used a spring scale to measure the force it took to move objects, as well as their weight. We really enjoyed making predictions about which objects would be the heaviest and how that would compare to the amount of force it would take to pull the objects. Check out our findings on the chart in the classroom! Here are a few of the pictures I was able to snap.
Roman Builders
Today, we learned about some of the very important things that were used in Ancient Rome. We learned how they made a special mixture of concrete to build roads to get across the peninsula of Italy. They also used this special concrete (made from a mixture of volcanic ash, water, and lime) to build entire apartment buildings--some as tall as 5 stories high! Another important tool for the Ancient Romans were the aqueducts that they built to bring fresh water into the city from a far as 50 miles away. This water was used for cooking and drinking, but also for bathing in public bath houses.
We used clay to build our own models of Roman architecture today.
When they've dried, I'll be sure to post more pictures of the finished products!

Pizza Inn!
As part of our "Pizza, Please!" writing unit, we took a field trip to Pizza Inn.
We're on our way! (PS: Hannah's first bus ride!)
I'm always the photographer and never in the pictures, so I decided to take a self-portrait with my buddies on the bus!
Who is ready for pizza??
Ms. JoJo leading the way!
Checking out the ingredients.
Making our very own pizzas!
Morgan, Zenobia, and Nolan are hard at work.
Lizzie taking her pizza to the oven.
There's always time for a quick photo op!
Touching the pizza dough
Brr! It's cold in there!
Don't they look delicious?
Nolan is proud of his hard work!
Enjoying the fruits of their labor.
And of course, it wouldn't be a field trip if Ms. Amy didn't give them a writing assignment as soon as they got back to school.

Even Steven and Odd Todd
Both Kindergartners and First Graders were introduced to "Even Steven" and "Odd Todd" this week. Even Steven loves numbers that can be split into even groups. Those are his very favorite. He likes them so much, that everywhere he goes he yells "0, 2, 4, 6, 8. Being even is so GREAT!" Odd Todd is a different sort of character. He doesn't care so much if there are leftover numbers. He's so happy with this fact, that he often shouts "1, 3, 5, 7, 9! Being Odd is MIGHTY FINE!".
Here are a few illustrations of Even Steven and Odd Todd done by our class.
